SNHU men’s club volleyball is gearing up for the start of their season at the beginning of the Spring semester. The club has been running for four years.

Marshall Littlefield, the club president, spoke about the club.

“Typical practice times are 8-10pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays, although that changes depending on gym availability,” said Littlefield. “Sometimes we also have optional weekend practices on the outdoor courts.”

Littlefield wants those who are interested in joining to not feel intimidated. “Volleyball is often seen as an intimidating sport to get into with a high skill level to enter. The truth is that anyone can find a way to play and once you do, it becomes an addiction. Volleyball is a sport that is both easy to start and easy to fall in love with. I want people to know how great it feels and that’s why everyone is invited to play with us,” said Littlefield.

The team has a wide variety of students from different majors and freshmen to seniors; everyone is welcome.

The team plays other club teams from around the region. “We play a variety of other club teams from New England. We are part of the NECVL or New England Collegiate Volleyball League, and that’s where most of our opponents come from,” said Littlefield.

The team’s games are mostly away, but Littlefield has been trying to schedule games at SNHU. He welcomes anyone to come watch and cheer them on.

“Most of our games are away games, although I’ve been working with a few other schools to organize scrimmages here at SNHU. A typical tournament day will be 3-4 games in one day. We try to put as much energy into playing as possible, so we welcome anyone who wants to watch and cheer us on,” said Littlefield.

The team has formal tryouts at the beginning of each semester. Any male student at SNHU who is interested is welcome to come to tryouts.

“[The tryouts] are more for gauging interest and commitment than actual skill. Any guys at SNHU who are interested are welcome at tryouts,” said Littlefield

The club volleyball season doesn’t have a set timeline; the length depends on how the team is doing. It starts in January and runs until late March, but if the team is invited to the championships for their division, their season continues into April.
