Anna Carbone, a Junior and the president of the Student Government Association (SGA) at SNHU, wants SGA to be more connected to the student body.
Carbone was a freshmen looking for involvement and found the SGA. She joined as a senator and became the President of SGA this year.
“I was just a kid who came here and wanted to be a part of my community. The Boys & Girls Club made a great impact on my life in high school and I wanted to keep going in terms of community involvement. My first year in SGA I was a Senator, the second year I became the Vice President of Student Advocacy for the semester and then I became president,” says Carbone.
Students who want to join SGA will have many opportunities to get involved in the organization.
“By joining SGA, you become a Senator, who is a community representative. From there, you vote on financial decisions for clubs and organizations and speak up for what you think our campus needs and take on needed projects. You also will get to build personal and professional connections with university leadership and other student leaders which makes you grow.”
Carbone wants students to know that their voices will be heard this year, SGA is holding events to listen to student voices and is also tabling around campus each month.
“I think that this year, stepping into the role of President I want to ensure our mission is us being present community members ensuring students have their voice being heard. Something I’m trying to focus on this year is ensuring students know we are present which is why we are tabling each month to have open dialogue with students,” says Carbone.
To gain a better sense of community, the SGA held an event called Campus Conversations on November 19 in the Last Chapter Pub, that was an opportunity for students to give feedback about campus and to generate helpful conversations among students.
The SGA will be holding another Campus Conversations in the spring to encourage more student feedback and dialogue.
SGA has also tabled in various locations around campus to get student input. They have previously tabled in October, November, and December, and will continue to table throughout the spring semester.
