On Wednesday, February 22, The Learning Center put on “Are You Smarter Than a Tutor?” The Last Chapter Pub was transformed into a real-life gameshow set. On stage, there were scoreboards, a spinning wheel with different categories such as business, math, and English.
Two tables were set up across from each other, giving opponents a view of their competition.
Many students and professors came to The Last Chapter Pub from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. to form teams and find out which team would be victorious in this trivia event.
The winning team was set to take home a $200 cash prize. There was also a raffle taking place so that students could take home goodies like gift cards, mugs and candy.
Professor Kathy Willis, who teaches statistics, served as one of the moderators for the event. “The event is so much fun,” Willis said. “It’s a great opportunity to get everyone engaged as a community.”
Ericka Broderick, a junior at SNHU studying communication, was in attendance that night. Broderick is a statistics tutor at the Learning Center. She was excited about the event and the large turnout.
“I think it’s a great way to bring staff and students together,” Broderick said. “It really allows us to show off our skills in a friendly game of trivia. It also showcases the benefits students have on campus with our free tutoring.”
The team that was victorious throughout was “The Professors Team.” In true sportsman- like fashion “The Professors” donated their prize to second place holders “Adam’s Team.” juniors Adam Albano, Dan Martel and Megan Leger, and sophomore Jordan Gambale split the $200 prize.
The Learning Center is a place where students can meet with staff and tutors to work on different areas of improvement. From writing English essays, to doing statistics problems, there is always someone available to help.
