Style Club hit the runway again this year as they hosted their Sixth Annual Fashion Show on the second floor of the Dining Center on Mar. 25.
The theme this year for the event was the 90s, and they deemed the event “Flashback Friday.” They showcased fashion from various popular areas of the nineties while using the event to help fundraise money to donate to CHaD (Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth-Hitchcock).
“The entire show is inspired by 90s fashion coming back recently,” said Courtney Caccavelli, a senior SNHU student and the President of the Style Club. “The big hair, the necklaces, the color, everything.”
CHaD is ranked one of the nation’s top children’s hospitals and research facilities, and Style Club has partnered with them again this year to help raise funds to support the research and treatments administered at their facilities. Funds raised from admissions and raffle tickets will go towards this cause.
When asked what her favorite part of the event was, Ashley Paré, a freshman SNHU student, said, “Getting the chance to be a model and that all the money is going towards helping the children at CHaD.”
The night started off with a video presentation showing CHaD patients, doctors, and nurses dancing and singing to Katy Perry’s “Roar,” to show the audience exactly who the night was for.
Style Club members followed up by walking the runway in famous 90’s TV show fashion starting with “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” and going into “Sister, Sister.” Other segments of the show showcased 90’s music, streetwear, and formal finishing off with SNHU professors showcasing SNHU apparel and then the Style Club members walking with some CHaD patients.
The show had an intermission in between streetwear and formal where senior SNHU student Matt Richardson performed singing several songs starting with Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud,” and ending with Justin Bieber’s “Sorry.”
In the third segment, not only did students walk the runway in streetwear, but they were accompanied by SNHU students Zack Ryan and David Altimore who provided vocals to help rev up the atmosphere and get the audience really engaged in the show.
“It’s fun; it’s with a good group of people and even professors are coming out,” said sophomore transfer student Briana Diaz. “[My favorite part is] showing off the 90’s hair and the look. We honestly kick butt.”
Caccavelli has been working on the preparation for this event for around a year now, and the club has been preparing for it’s shot at the runway since September by practicing every Sunday night.
All of the clothing that was worn for the night was donated to Style Club local buisnesses such as Dress Barn, T.J. Maxx, East Coast Casual, and George’s Apparel.
The Style Club even acquired their own “Flashback Friday” filter on Snapchat for the night, and encouraged the members of the audience to put it on any and all pictures that they took throughout the show.
