The SNHU Student Employee of the Year for 2018 is Nicole Clark, currently in her third year studying Elementary Special Education. Thirty one SNHU student workers were nominated for Student Employee of the Year and honored at the reception along with the employees’ managers and supervisors.
Clark is a Service Learning Coordinator for the Center for Community Engaged Learning. For this role, Clark coordinates a service learning site, serves as one of the alternative break trip leaders, serves as the leader of the Math Buddies program and has worked with hundreds of students in the community as well.
For Clark’s service learning project this semester she goes to Girls Inc, an after-school program for girl empowerment, and the Gossler Park, another after-school program that assists students in several different ways such as with homework or even singing and dancing. Clark explains, “While we [SNHU students in service learning projects] are at these programs we get to be a helping hand for the program as well as being role models for these young students.”
The National Association of Student Employment Administrators (NSEA) designated the second week of April as Student Employment Appreciation Week. NSEA provides a selection process in which supervisors can nominate student workers for consideration for the Student Employee of the Year honor.
Mary Young, SNHU Work-Study Coordinator, explains “the purpose [of this week] is to enhance awareness of student employment, recognize students who perform outstanding work while attending college and thank employers, who hire students and make the program a success.”
NSEA also provides a selection process in which winning Student Employees of the Years are sent in for state consideration. The state winner is considered for the regional title, and the regional winner advances for national consideration.
Clark set a new record for SNHU employees as not only did she win Student of the Year at SNHU, she also won at the state and regional level and placed second in the national commission. After all the excitement, Clark stated: “I had no idea going into the reception that this would all be happening to me and I am extremely grateful to be able to receive these awards.”
The third annual Student Employee of the Year Reception was held on Wednesday, April 11 in the Hospitality Salons A and B at SNHU.
