An event called The Game of Life will be held at 8 p.m. in the Miles room located in the dining hall on Monday, April 16.

This event is a simulation that is meant to start a conversation on campus about familiar stereotypes that students face. Each individual falls into a diverse category that is subjected to different stigmas which are not addressed within everyday conversation.

The SNHU community includes a widely diverse student body and this event will shine light on the importance of acceptance. It will cover issues relating to race, sexual orientation, religion, gender, social class and language barriers.

Many offices and clubs are involved in this event including the Office of Diversity and CAPE. The goal was to get a wide variety of clubs involved so that they can start these conversations with their own organizations and members.

The event will conclude with a discussion which will give attendees the opportunity to talk about their experiences during the game as well as in their personal lives.

“I come from a small town in Maine and when I was a sophomore in high school, I attended a conference called Maine Youth Leadership where they did this simulation. It has stuck with me since and I wanted to bring it to the students of SNHU,” said Event Coordinator Rose McLaughlin (‘21).

Throughout the event, people will go to different stations that will help them succeed in the game. The process is supposed to mimic the idea of how students go through school to get a job.

The first 50 people that arrive will receive a five dollar Amazon gift card. Other prizes will also be given out.

McLaughlin wants attendees to know that these conversations can continue after The Game Of Life and that there are people on campus to go to if they need somebody to talk to.

McLaughlin said, “Many people seem excited about it and I look forward to seeing how people react to this event.”
