The Elevator Pitch Competition will take place on Wednesday, April 11 in the Gustafson Center. This competition is for students to practice their elevator pitch with real employers.
An elevator pitch is a short summary of ones’ professional self and goals. The idea behind developing a great elevator pitch is to be prepared as if one was in an elevator with the CEO of a company (or any individual) to connect and take advantage of the short opportunity to promote themselves.
At the competition, students will have two minutes to pitch themselves two separate times to two employers. They will then receive feedback from the employers after their pitch.
Students will be judged based upon how clear, concise and compelling their pitch is.
Selling oneself isn’t easy, but is necessary when one is on the hunt for a job. Here is a list of some tips to get students started.
The introduction to one’s pitch should be three to five sentences on who the student is as a person.
The next part of one’s pitch should focus on what makes the student unique.
The third part of one’s pitch should then touch upon the aspirations that one has in their career, education or life.
The last and most important part of ones’ pitch would be the ‘ask’ portion, when one would ask the employer a question to start up a conversation.

Students can sign up for these times: 3 p.m., 3:30 p.m., 4 p.m., 5 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. They will be able to select two time slots and will be emailed with one confirmed time slot.
