The Vagina Monologues are a dramatic reading and performance of collected interviews done by Eve Ensler about vaginas. Ensler is an American playwright, performer, feminist and activist, best known for her work with The Vagina Monologues. The event will be held in the Last Chapter Pub on Friday, February 23 at 8 p.m.

“This performance exists to entertain as well as inform audiences about people’s experiences with their vaginas because it is a topic most people do not openly speak about,”said Dee Dube (’18), Women’s Center staff member, and president of Generation Equality. “Ensler interviewed women of different ages, ethnicities, backgrounds and professions, including women in the LGBTQ+ community”

SNHU has not hosted The Vagina Monologues before, but is “excited to be hosting them this year on their 20th anniversary,” said Dube.

If people would like to participate in the performance, there are open auditions on Wednesday, January 31 from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. and Monday, February 5 from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. in the Women’s Center. “Everyone is allowed to volunteer, and everyone who isn’t a cisgender man is allowed to participate,” said Dube. “Those rules come directly from V-Day, the organization that puts on all the Vagina Monologues performances.”

To participate, it is not necessary that volunteers memorize anything or have any previous acting experience. Students as well as faculty, staff and administration are encouraged to get involved with the production.

“So far, we’re cosponsoring with Generation Equality, SNHU Drama and the Wellness Center to make this event as fun and inclusive as possible,” said Dube. Additionally, a counselor will be attending the for those who may need support during the more difficult monologues.

“Everyone can and should attend the event. It’s as educational as it is hilarious, and everyone has something to learn,” said Dube.
