The ninth annual Give A Little, Feed A Lot food drive will be held on Saturday, September 16. The Center for Community Engaged Learning (CCEL) does this each year, partnering with the NH Food Bank so all the food collected from this event goes back into the Manchester, NH community.

CCEL encourages everybody and anybody to come help out at this event. There is always a variety of students, faculty, professors and even alumni that come to this event each year. Last year this event collected 7,040 pounds of food to be donated to the NH Food Bank and for the first time ever doing this event they needed to call a second truck to pick up the rest of the donations.

Ryan Bailey, a second year student at SNHU said, “Give a Little Feed a Lot was the first big event that I attended in college and it was my first real exposure to service at SNHU. I could see that service was not a new concept for the students of SNHU because people showed up in massive numbers and each and every one of them had a smile on their face and came ready to go. It reassured me that I had made the right choice in going to SNHU.”

Prior to the event, CCEL staff members drop of reminders and donation bags all across Manchester to spread the word about the upcoming food drive. Then on the day of the event the people who are donating will leave their bag at the end of their driveway to be picked up by the teams from SNHU.

Teams will head out to a specific route that will be given to them at registration to collect the bags of food. When collecting the food, the teams will get to fill up a shopping cart that are donated for this event from Hannaford’s, so they don’t have to carry it all by hand. These shopping carts are very useful because teams are able to move the food from one place to another much easier.

Once the donations make their way back to the SNHU campus they are put into large crates. Once these crates are full, they are then loaded on to a large truck that is from the NH Food Bank.

Isabel Thorne a second year student at SNHU said, “I think the best part about it is being able to see just how much you can accomplish in one day when everyone helps out. It’s such a great project to kick off the school year with! I can’t wait for this years GALFAL.”

Registration for this event will be at 9:30 a.m. outside on the Green Space and will close around 10 a.m.. This event is a great way to get involved on the SNHU campus, meet new friends and help make a difference in the local community.
