If this is your first time on a college campus, you probably have a lot of questions about academics, time management, working and maintaining a budget and numerous other things. But this article is about the important stuff.

Gaming on campus is a necessity for those of us that love the medium. It’s a strong way to encounter peers who are interested in the same things as us, and for a lot of students studying Game Art and Game Programming, it’s a big help in understanding what people like and dislike before you start making your own games.

Thankfully, our campus community is incredibly welcoming to those who would consider games to be a big part of their daily lives. While games shouldn’t take precedence over studies, it never hurts to pick up a controller and unwind, and here are some ways to do so.

Interested in trying a game or console you don’t own? SNHU allows students to check games out from the library. Critically acclaimed titles such as Super Smash Bros. and Metal Gear Solid V are available to take out for one week at a time (with potential renewal provided it isn’t reserved by another student). Consoles can also be checked out from the library.

Interested in having gaming tournaments and events in your dorm? Talk to your RA and see if they can allocate some of their programming budgets for gaming related events to bring the hall together.

There is also a club on campus called Gaming Club dedicated to hosting tournaments in some of the most popular competitive games available such as Super Smash Bros. and Hearthstone, as well as others like League of Legends. When these tournaments are not taking place, Gaming Club is just a great place to go to meet people and participate in some fun and interesting gaming experiences.

As you can see, there are numerous ways on campus to engage in fun and social gaming, and this supports a lot of the better components of your college experience. Go out and meet people, show them what you know and learn some new information for yourself.
