First place talent show winner Tyler Crain.

The sisters of Phi Omega Psi hosted the annual talent show at SNHU on Thursday, April 13 in The Last Chapter Pub.

Co-sponsoring with Student Government Association (SGA), Phi Omega Psi welcomed all SNHU students to come and showcase their talent to a panel of judges. Between each performance, audience members were encouraged to snack on chips and candy. Attendees were also given a chance to win a 50-50 raffle.

Sophomore and member of Phi Omega Psi, Carissa Kent, coordinated the event. “This is our third year doing the event. We ask people to show their talent to the judges, to the audience and to everyone that’s here, and then they get prizes for it,” said Kent.

The awards this year consisted of cash prices. The firstplace contestant was awarded $200, second place got $100 and third place got $50.

Seated at the judge’s panel were Athena Adair, Breanna Chmielecki, Annie Gaudet and Selina Marcille. After each performance, judges were able to provide feedback and constructive criticism.

SNHU students shared their talents through various songs, dances and instruments. The first act consisted of an original song written and performed by Ericka Brodenick. Judges commented on her relatable lyrics and strong stage presence.

Another musical performance was presented by Richie Oliver and his guitar named Cassidy.

Both Oliver and Cassidy took the stage to perform the song “Angela” by the Lumineers. He was provided with positive feedback from the judges who all commented on his unique voice and interesting song choice.

Sophomore Shannon Hewes was one of the last performers to take the stage. “I was asked to put this together last minute and I [chose] to sing the song “Bright” by Echosmith,” said Hewes.

At the conclusion of the event, judges were asked to deliberate and announce the winners.

Third place was tied between singer Carly McDonough and dancer Christian Smith.

Placing second was Richie Oliver and coming in first place with an instrumental piece was Tyler Crain.

The sisters of Phi Omega Psi plan to host this event again next year for anyone that might be interested in sharing their talents on campus.
