After a successful summer of death defying stunts, jumping his BMX bike over any and all obstacles across New Hampshire’s country fair’s, Matt Peterson’s stunt career was primed to transition from mid-life crisis to a full on second career for the Assistant Director of Residence Life. That was until March 11, when Petersons dislocated and fractured his ankle after slipping during an ice fishing accident on Bow Lake.

Petersons went into surgery March 17 needing three screws and a plate inserted into his ankle to help stimulate the healing process. The current timetable for Peterson’s recovery is four months which has cast serious doubt on Petersons’ ability to return to his daredevil antics this summer.

“I’ve jumped over rows of flaming buses and ridden though explosions on my bike and, I came out without a scratch,” Petersons said about the accident. “Then, a family ice fishing trip puts me in the emergency room.”

On his doctor’s recommendation, Petersons will need to stay off his right foot until the injury is fully healed. “Because of the injury, I’ve gotten to ride around on a new scooter. I haven’t had it long, but I’m already looking for spots on campus where I can test out some rad tricks.”

Petersons paused for a moJaime Mailloux Jaime Mailloux meant before asking, “My doctors definitely won’t read this, right?”

Only two weeks after his injury, Petersons has already showed his intention to return to BMX stunt riding once he’s completed his physical therapy. He’s already begun preparation for his first major jump.

“Bow Lake and I have unfinished business. The frozen ice may have broken my ankle, but once I’m back to 100 percent, I’m going to break the world record for the sickest double backflip over a lake in history.”

Petersons is updating his fans as his recovery progresses. He’s started the hashtag #MMGA, which stands for Make Matt Great Again. “What I know for sure is that next year on Move-In Day, I’m gonna jump from Tuckerman’s roof to the new apartment building.”
