The fall season was kicked off by Southern New Hampshire University’s (SNHU) Student Involvement Office with their annual Fall Foliage field trip. On Sunday, Sept. 19, a group of students was led by Student Involvement’s Elizabeth Laclair to four destinations in Vermont.

The fall-packed activities included visits to the Vermont Teddy Bear Factory, Church Street Marketplace, Cold Hollow Cider Mill, and the Waterbury Ben and Jerry’s Factory.

First, the group received a tour at the Vermont Teddy Bear Factory and saw how the company’s bears go from concept to product and were taught how to identify a genuine Vermont Teddy Bear.

Church Street Marketplace was the next destination for students to shop and eat at their leisure. After, the group went to Cold Hollow Cider Mill to get their fix of fresh apple cider and cider doughnuts.

The last stop of the day was the Ben and Jerry’s Factory. The group toured the factory’s facilities to learn how Ben and Jerry’s started as well as how their ice cream is produced today. After taking photos and eating free samples, it was homeward-bound to SNHU.

Event attendee and junior Brianna Cataldo said, “I’m really happy that I [attended this trip]. My favorite part was going to Ben and Jerry’s because I love ice cream and I am so glad that we got to try free samples.”

When asked about the origin of this annual event, Elizabeth Laclair said, “This trip started in the fall of 2008… Since I’m originally from Vermont, I wanted to share some of the things I really loved about [the state] with the students.” She continued, “I think [today’s event] was a hit since the students seemed to really like [the activities]…and hopefully folks made some new friends along the way.”
