On Feb. 6 Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) showed their support for beating breast cancer by putting on their 11th anual Penmen Pink Day event.

During the women’s Basketball game those who were attending the or anyone who just wanted to help spread breast cancer awareness showed their support by helping out the Catholic Medical Center (CMC) who was raising money outside of the gym. From raffle tickets, to Penmen Pink clothing, all funds went to the CMC and to help research breast cancer. Catholic Medical Center’s Surgical Director of Breast Health, Dr. Connie Campbell, was at the event and spoke during the game’s halftime.

The CMC tables were always crowded, and just as crowded was the gymnasium with many sporting the famous pink color for breast cancer awareness. They rooted hard for the Women’s team to bring home the win, which they easily accomplished against Saint Michael’s, 60-52.

Even when the game was going on there was always someone checking out the CMC tables learning more about breast cancer or making a donation to cause.

Many who attended the game had surviving family members or were survivors themselves. Each of them wore an assortment of different items like buttons and bracelets, all dressed in pink to show their support.

After the game had ended it was clear to once again be a success. Almost all the clothing items were gone and the raffle jars were overflowing. And it didn’t hurt that SNHU took home the victory. It not only helped the teams playoff chances but made for a great moment for the energetic crowd.

We at the Penmen Press are avid supporters of raising breast cancer awareness and send out congratulations to our Women’s Basketball team and everyone involved in this year’s great event. We hope that next year’s Penmen Pink Day can accomplish even more.
