The SNHU lacrosse season is underway. The men’s lacrosse season starts February 10 with the team’s first scrimmage against Endicott. The first men’s game was on February 17 against Molloy, and ended in a loss 11-10 at the Penmen Stadium. The first women’s game was on February 18 and ended in a win 21-2 in Sparkill, NY.
Sophomore Matt Antonetti (26’) has been on the team for two years and is excited for this season to start. The team has 15 new players and lost six seniors last season.
“We are excited. We got a good group of guys that have played a lot together and have good experience,” said Antonetti.
Antonetti’s favorite memory from last season was the Franklin Pierce overtime win for the third year in a row, and this season Antonetti is hyped for the spring break games in North Carolina.
This season the spring break games days are March 6 and March 9.
The March 6 game is against Catawba College in Salisbury, North Carolina and the March 9 game is against the University of Mount Olive in Mount Olive, North Carolina.
Women’s lacrosse player, Megan Petko (24’) has been on the team for four years and is ready for the season to start.
The team’s first game of the season was February 18 versus STAC (Saint Thomas Aquinas College), ending with the team winning the game. The first home game is March 16 versus Presbyterian College.
The energy going into this upcoming season for Petko is excitement. The team lost seniors who graduated last semester and gained new players for this new season.
“I think everyone is looking forward to a great year. We lost six teammates between seniors and grad students. This year we gained seven freshmen and two transfers,” said Petko.
The team learned a lot from last season and are ready for the new season to start; the team has strong returning players ready to go.
“We learned how to play with each other. We have a number of strong returners who have the opportunity to play alongside each other again this season,” said Petko.
Petko is hyped for her final season at SNHU to show the team’s full potential and what they have.
“To play my final season with my teammates as we get the chance to compete against some of the best programs in the country. I think we saw flashes of our potential last season, but this is the year we’re going to show it,” said Petko.
