Students departed from the Student Center at 10:45am on November 18 for Boston, Massachusetts. In an event hosted by the Outing Club, students traveled to the New England Aquarium. Founded in 1969, the aquarium is a well-known attraction that is home to a large variety of marine life.
The group eagerly arrived around noon to spend a few hours exploring the aquarium and meeting the creatures at their exhibits, taking photos of the different animals, and learning about how they live their lives.
The list of aquatic creatures includes: African Penguins, Southern Rockhopper Penguins, California Sea Lions, Atlantic Harbor Seals, lobsters, fish of all shapes and sizes, a Giant Pacific Octopus, Weedy Sea Dragons, Piranhas, Dwarf Seahorses, Epaulette Sharks, and even an incredibly rare Blue Lobster.
A trip to the New England Aquarium is a great idea as it combines the relaxing aesthetic of marine life with education about the different species students are seeing. With 3 floors of sea creatures and information about each animal the aquarium provides everything for a fun educational outing.
One of the most well-known aquatic animals is a large green sea turtle that goes by the name Myrtle. Myrtle has been living there since 1970 and is a figurehead of sorts for the aquarium.
Some attractions that stood out the most to the group were the energetic and playful seals that were outside in front of the aquarium and the penguins that were zipping around underwater in their enclosure. After spending some time enjoying the aquarium the students made their way to the gift shop where large stuffed animals and punny shirts lined the walls.
Students left the gift shops hungry after a long day and sat down in the aquarium’s café for hamburgers and hotdogs before heading out on the bus after a fun day out.
